Founders Message

Wishing everyone a healthy & happy 2022!!

As the new year kicks off, we often reflect on the outgoing year and what we want to accomplish during the new year.  We are proud that EWL had a great 2021 despite the continued challenges of COVID.

Last year, EWL continued to grow the impact we are having on women’s lives by now sponsoring over 120 women and providing over $350,000 in scholarships.  As well, EWL is one of the most successful scholarship programs at TWU.  Our STARs graduate with an average GPA of 3.5 with a 95% graduation success rate.

The big EWL news of 2021 is the launch of our new EWL Austin Chapter.  Late December, EWL Austin received its official paperwork from the State of Texas.  Austin is partnering with Texas State University in San Marcos.  With the addition of EWL Austin, EWL now has 3 chapters!!

Some exciting news for 2022, we are in the process of recruiting board members for an EWL Houston Chapter.   The target plan for Houston is to start up the Houston chapter by Q1 of 2023.  Houston will partner with Texas Women’s University in Houston.

All of this is possible through the support of our corporate sponsors, members and donors. Thank you for your contributions in 2021 that enabled EWL to have a successful year.

Our New STARs

On January 28, we welcomed our newest STARs to the EWL Family.  The STAR Signing Ceremony was held in the TWU Library, where each new STAR signed their EWL Commitment Letter.

The STAR's mentor shared information about the STAR's background and accomplishments.  It was an empowering experience for the incoming STARs, their families and mentors.  Several EWL Board Members, TWU faculty and administrators also joined the celebration.

Congratulations to our STARs for their tenacity and all their achievements! We're excited to work with all of you to help you achieve your goals.  Welcome to the EWL family!

Friends of Sabre STAR Scholarship

Thanks to the generosity of our Sabre Friends, an annual Sabre Alumni Scholarship was created in 2020 which awarded $3000 in STAR Scholarships.  The 2021 scholarship goal was to raise $5000.  Way to go Sabre Friends, you exceeded that goal with donations to date of $5100.

An average EWL full scholarship is approximately 2.5 years.  This year, I’m excited to announce the Sabre Alumni Scholarship awarded a full scholarship which is $5000.

Many thanks to the continued support of our Sabre Friends in helping change the lives of women and investing in future women leaders.

The Friends of Sabre get together a couple of times a year.  If you would like to join this group to collectively give back together, you can make a donation by clicking the button below.
